According to ESPN.com’s Jeff Goodman, Michigan forward Mitch McGary will undergo back surgery this coming Tuesday which will likely keep him out for the rest of a season dealing a huge blow to the Wolverines.
Michigan's Mitch McGary set to undergo back surgery on Tuesday, source told ESPN. Most likely done for the season.

The news comes a week after it was announced that McGary elected to have back surgery initially putting him on the shelf indefinitely. This came after McGary dealt with bouts of back pain upon his return to the University this past August. He also played in 8 of the team’s first 11 games before it was ultimately decided to take him out of the lineup.
“I definitely didn’t want to injure my body more than it needs to be … because I had rehabbed for such a long time and tried to play through it,” McGary said last week. “But overall, I just wanted to get it (surgery) over with and get it in the past and work on my health and get 100 percent again.” (Mlive.com)
Despite the news from Jeff Goodman, Michigan still officially lists McGary as being out indefinitely pending how his rehabilitation goes. So it sounds like there’s an outside chance McGary can return.
