Brady Hoke apologizes for stake incident at Spartan Stadium

NCAA Football: Michigan at Michigan State

Brady Hoke once again was issuing apologies for something that happened on the field Saturday. This time though it stemmed from his team planting a stake into the turf of Spartan Stadium before proceeding to get slaughtered to the tune of 35-11 perhaps sealing his fate as Michigan’s head coach beyond this season.

Here’s Hoke blubbering away:

“I want to publicly apologize to Coach Dantonio as well as the players and supporters of Michigan State for our act of poor sportsmanship displayed pre-game yesterday,” said Hoke in a statement. “I spoke with Mark earlier today and expressed to him that we meant no disrespect to his team.

“During our regular Friday night team meeting, one of the topics presented to motivate our team was a history lesson addressing commitment and teamwork in a tough environment. A tent stake was presented to the team as a symbol of this concept. The stake was brought into our locker room as a visual reminder, and one of our team leaders chose to take it out on the field.

“As the leader of our football program, I take full responsibility for the actions of our team. We believe in displaying a high level of respect at the University of Michigan and unfortunately that was not reflected by this action prior to kickoff.”

Unfortunately though in this case there’s nothing to apologize for other than another embarrassing performance on the field from the University of Michigan. But instead of apologizing for something you’d expect out of a rivalry game, how about you apologize Mr. Hoke for continuing to clap on the sidelines like some blithering idiot every time Devin Gardner turns over the football? Or how about you apologize for your offensive coordinator acting like a total fool for celebrating a TD the way he did in a game that further sealed this staff’s fate?

What’s even more telling though from this apology from Hoke is he’s now firmly planted as Mark Dantonio’s bitch.
