Legendary Michigan coaches Bo Schembechler and Lloyd Carr couldn’t do it. Neither could Gary Moeller, Rich Rodriguez or Bump Elliott.

What am I talking about? Neither one of those coaches could beat Michigan State in their first year as Michigan head coach.

But could Brady Hoke?

The last coach to accomplish this feat was Bennie Oosterbaan back in 1948 when he managed to beat the Spartans 13-7 on his way to coaching the Wolverines to a National title.

Unlike this year, the 1948 game played between the Spartans and the Wolverines was played the first game of the season on September 25th. However this time in 1948 the Wolverines were also undefeated sitting at 4-0 while Michigan in 2011 are sitting at 6-0.

The question though still remains, can Brady Hoke beat Michigan State this weekend at Spartan Stadium?

The simple answer is yes, BUT it’s not going to be easy.

Despite Michigan State having their struggles this season, they are still generally a good team playing at home and looking to repeat the successes they had last season in the Big Ten.

Michigan will need to play their best game yet to beat the Spartans.
