First year EMU men’s basketball coach Rob Murphy has added a recruit to his 2012 class.

The Lansing State Journal is reporting that Lansing Sexton senior-to-be Anthony Clemmons has given a verbal commitment to Murphy.

Clemmons averaged 12.3 points, 4.1 assists and 3.2 steals for the defending Class B state champions.

According to AnnArbor.com, Clemmons will join three Division I transfers who will be eligible for the Eagles in 2012 after sitting out the upcoming season per NCAA rules. The other recruits include 7-foot DeShonte Riley from Syracuse, 6-7 Glenn Bryant from Arkansas and 6-6 Daylen Harrison from Wyoming.

Rivals.com reports that Clemmons chose Eastern Michigan over scholarship offers from Western Michigan, Detroit and Northern Illinois.

“They told me I could come in and play, and that there probably won’t be a better situation,” Clemmons told the State Journal. “Coach Murphy, I know he’s a winner, and I’d like to be a winner with him.”

Stephen Bell from Bankhoops.com describes Clemmons as “strong, physical and athletic, he’s a glue player at guard who will defend, set up the offense and is good at creating his own shot when he looks to do so.”
