Even though he never had the opportunity to play under Greg Mattison’s defense while at Michigan, Steelers’ linebacker Larry Foote is very familiar with Mattison’s style of play.

Why?

Foote took on Mattison’s defense twice a season while Mattison served as the defensive coordinator at Baltimore.

“Playing against his defense when he was with Baltimore, I know his style of defense,” Foote told the Detroit Free Press. “I knew him a little bit when I was growing up when he used to be at Michigan, but I wasn’t there yet. It’s going to be an attacking style. The main thing as a defense you want to dictate the pace of the game and I’m quite sure he’s going to do that.”

Mattison comes into Michigan with a huge task on hand after Michigan ranked 110 in total defense last season.
