With the regular season drawing near for Michigan, head coach Brady Hoke still has yet to name a starting running back. However if the season were to start today, Hoke knows who his starting tail back would be…

“Mike Shaw,” Hoke said after Tuesday’s practice. “He’s been more consistent on a daily basis. He’s improved a little bit.

“Coming into (camp), I think (running backs coach) Fred (Jackson) would have told you he’s a little concerned about the passing game and the protections in the passing game, and I think he’s improved in that part.”

The 6-1, 195lb native of Trotwood, Ohio, Shaw enters his senior season having rushed for 402 yards last season on 75 attempts with nine touchdowns. These were all career highs.
