Michigan assistant Bacari Alexander ‘in the mix’ for Detroit job

Michigan basketball assistant Bacari Alexander may finally get his first chance at becoming a head coach in college basketball.

According to ESPN’s Jeff Goodman, Alexander is ‘expected to be in the mix’ to take over Detroit Mercy after the school fired Ray McCallum after eight seasons Friday.

Alexander would make sense for the Titans being a U of D Jesuit alum himself. The 39-year old Alexander helped Detroit to two straight NCAA Tournament berths as a player in 1998 and 1999. He also served as an assistant with the Titans from 2001-2007 before taking jobs at Ohio, Western Michigan and eventually in Ann Arbor with the Wolverines.
