Michigan caps a perfect 2012 home schedule with win over Iowa

on

It was a bitter sweet day at The Big House today for a Michigan Wolverine’s team that continues to improve under the direction of head coach Brady Hoke.

The sweet side of things was the Wolverines once again pounding another Big Ten opponent into the ground this time defeating Iowa 42-17 in front of another sold-out Michigan Stadium. But the more somber end of things was this would be the last time the Michigan faithful would catch a glimpse of their seniors including the explosive Denard Robinson on The Big House turf ever again.

But entering today’s game, Michigan fans were unsure as to whether or not they would even get the chance to see Robinson set foot on the field due to an elbow injury that’s sidelined him the past couple of weeks.

Brady Hoke however put any doubt of Denard Robinson playing today to bed early.

On the Wolverines’ first offensive possession, Robinson lined up as a wide receiver with Gardner under center and continued to spread himself out between running back, quarterback and a receiver for the rest of the game. And despite being limited due to the nagging elbow injury Robinson rushed for 98 yards implementing a new aspect to the Michigan offense heading into next week’s showdown with Ohio State.

Devin Gardner also continued to show that life after Robinson at the quarterback position is going to be just fine as the junior accounted for six touchdowns (three rushing, three passing) in the win. He also threw for a career high 314 yards as the Michigan offense seemed to of scored at will.

Gardner also did an excellent job spreading the ball around hitting Jeremy Gallon five times for 133 yards and Roy Roundtree five times for 83 yards and a touchdown.

Michigan now heads to Columbus for next week’s regular season finale against arch-rival Ohio State from the Horseshoe.

NOTES: The day wasn’t filled with positives for Michigan as the Wolverines lost running back Fitz Toussaint to a leg injury in the first half. The junior was carted off the field and taken to the University of Michigan Hospital for x-rays.
