Michigan’s Tim Hardaway, Jr. scored 26 points and freshman Trey Burke added 13 points and seven assists as the Wolverines went on to a 71-53 victory over Penn State Thursday night at Crisler in the Big Ten opener.

Michigan (11-2, 1-0) has now won six straight after falling to Virginia in the Big Ten/ACC challenge. Thursday night’s victory also marked the first victory for Michigan in a Big Ten opener during John Beilein’s five year tenure as head coach.

After Michigan’s strong start in the first half, they didn’t let up in the second. Hardaway continued his strong night scoring the Wolverines’ first six points of the half giving them an 18 point advantage over the Nittany Lions. After this Penn State never made another serious run at the Michigan lead.
