Michigan’s leading WR Tarik Black will have surgery on a broken foot

Tarik Black, Michigan‘s leading wide receiver will undergo foot surgery to repair cracked bone on the outside of his foot and be out for an unspecified amount of time according to head coach Jim Harbaugh.

Black was injured during the fourth quarter of the Wolverines’ 23-13 win over Air Force Saturday.

Harbaugh was uncommitted on a return time for Black only mentioning that he was unsure if he’d make a return to the field this season. The good news in terms of that is if he is indeed gone for the rest of the year he will be eligible for a medical red shirt in 2018.

Unfortunately however that doesn’t solve Michigan’s problems at wide out this season.

In his first three games, the Connecticut native, Black has accumulated 11 catches for 149 yards and a touchdown. Other than Black, Grant Perry is the only other Michigan receiver with more than five catches this season.

With Black out, you can probably count on Donovan Peoples-Jones getting more touches going forward. In any sense though Black’s absence from the Michigan offense adds to the questions for a group that’s had its share of trouble out of the gate in 2017.
