It’s looking more and more like Jim Harbaugh will return home to the Michigan program.

According to various reports, notably Jason Cole of the Bleacher Report, the 49ers expect Harbaugh to accept the Michigan job this week.

via Bleacher Report:

Two members of the San Francisco 49ers staff and a third NFL source said Saturday they expect 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh to accept a six-year, $48 million contract to become the head coach of the University of Michigan.

“That’s what everybody on staff believes is going to happen this week,” one of the sources said. “Jim has figured out that his style is best-suited for the college game. His shtick works better with young guys who are gone after three or four years.”

Speculation has been building in regards to Harbaugh and Michigan ever since the firing of Brady Hoke earlier in the month and the assumption that Harbaugh would be fired by the 49ers at the end of the season. San Francisco finishes up their 2014 year Sunday against Arizona which will mark the first time the Niners won’t make the playoffs under the direction of Harbaugh.

247Sports also made mention of the Harbaugh situation, citing a source close to the the happenings in Ann Arbor and San Francisco saying “it would take something catastrophic for Jim Harbaugh to not be the next head coach at the University of Michigan.”

Bruce Feldman of FOX Sports reported this week that Michigan officials would be in the Bay Area this weekend ready to meet with Harbaugh as soon as he was let go by the 49ers.

Oakland Raiders officials are also expected to be ready to meet with Harbaugh at the conclusion of San Francisco’s game Sunday however at this point it would seem as though all signs are pointing to Ann Arbor.
