Taylor Currie “decommits” from Michigan Basketball

Michigan Basketball

Michigan learned Friday that three-star power forward Taylor Currie had “decommitted” from the Wolverines opening up his recruitment for 2018 and 2019.

A native of Clarkston, Michigan and ranked the 199th overall prospect for the class of 2018 and 8th best player in the State, Currie and the Michigan program may have mutually agreed for both to part ways.

According to 247Sports, Michigan has been targeting other big men for their 2018 squad as of late – like Florida forward Colin Castleton – and could have been looking to open up the scholarship.

But in recent weeks, the Wolverines have reached out to more big men in the 2018 class. The most notable is four-star Florida forward Colin Castleton, who recently dropped two remaining official visits, named Michigan in his top two alongside Illinois and is currently in Ann Arbor on an official visit.

With Currie’s decommitment, Michigan now has one scholarship available for 2018 while Zach Shaw of 247Sports relays John Beilein may be willing to go over the limit given Castleton and top-75 shooting guard Noah Locke still being on the table for the Wolverines.

As far as Currie goes, his availability for 2018 and 2019 will certainly expand his field of potential suitor programs which could include Wisconsin and Michigan State.
