The University of Michigan secured it’s second 2013 recruit in as many days.

According to Rivals.com and James Jahnke of the Detroit Free Press, Derrick Walton, a point guard from Harper Woods Chandler Park Academy, verbally pledged to the Wolverines on Monday.

Rivals ranks Walton as a four-star recruit making him the highest ranked recruit on the 2013 class. Jahnke writes that three-star small forward Zak Irvin of Indiana committed to Michigan on Sunday while Ohio power forward Mark Donnal and Indiana shooting guard Austin Hatch previously committed to the Wolverines. Unfortunately Hatch’s status is in doubt after a June plane crash.

The 6-0, 170 pound Walton also reportedly got offers from Xavier, Iowa State, Detroit Mercy and Central Michigan. He is rated the 88th best player in the nation according to Rivals.com for the 2013 class.

Verbal commitments aren’t binding until they sign their letters of intent in the fall of 2012.
