No. 21 Michigan State capped off their turnaround season after a forgettable 2016 beating Rutgers 40-7 on the road moving their record to 9-3 on the regular season. Brian Lewerke threw for 222 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 66 more on the ground with a score as the Spartans accumulated 431 total net yards while holding the Scarlett Knights to just 112.

Michigan State will now return to the postseason after missing last year’s bowl action for the first time since 2006. As far as their bid goes the Spartans could very well be headed for an Outback Bowl bid on New Year’s Day.
