Minnesota trying to close in on a deal with Western Michigan coach PJ Fleck

PJ Fleck looks to be one step closer to packing his bags and saying goodbye to Kalamazoo.

According to Joe Christensen of the Star Tribune, the Western Michigan head signal caller is getting close to inking a deal with the Minnesota Golden Gophers to become their new head coach.

The University of Minnesota was closing in on a deal to bring Western Michigan coach P.J. Fleck to the Gophers on Thursday night, with an eye toward a Friday announcement, but the contract had yet to be finalized, according to people familiar with the situation.

In terms of the monetary aspect of a potential Fleck/Minnesota union, we’re looking at a possible six-year deal in the $21 million dollar range.

Interestingly enough Fleck appears wot be Minnesota’s first choice, Plan B on the other hand is none other than former LSU coach Les Miles who reportedly met with Gopher officials Wednesday and Thursday.

In any case whether it’s Fleck, who’s certainly become quite the coaching commodity after guiding the Broncos to a one loss season or the experienced and successful Miles, Minnesota has a chance obtain some credible head coaching.
