The pressure is starting to mount for the Michigan State Spartans and the 2017-18 basketball season hasn’t even begun yet.

With four of their top five scorers returning from last season in Miles Bridges (16.9 ppg), Nick Ward (13.9), Joshua Langford (6.9) and Cassius Winston (6.7), the Spartans have caught the attention of the Westgate Superbook in Las Vegas who identifies Tom Izzo’s squad as 7-1 favorites to win the NCAA Tournament in 2018. Coming behind the Spartans according to Westgate are Kentucky, Louisville and Duke who place in at 10-1. Third place is a two-way tie between Kansas and Arizona at 12-1.

Bridges’ decision to return may have very well put Michigan State over the top in terms of their odds. After flirting with the idea of turning pro and inserting himself into the NBA Draft this summer, Bridges ultimately decided to give East Lansing at least one more go around.

However aside from who’s returning for the Spartans next season, MSU may also benefit from what is yet to come. As of now Michigan State will bring on five-star Jaren Jackson and four-star Xavier Tillman. Imagine though what these odds could be if Izzo was also to add Brian Bowen?
