Tigers avoid Arbitration with Coke, Porcello

Tigers Rangers Baseball

According the Majors Detroit and Yahoo! Sports, the Tigers have inked pitchers, Phil Coke and Rick Porcello to one-year deals.

SP Rick Porcello will earn $3.1 million dollars in his 2012 campaign. Porcello is coming off a 14 win season, a feat Rick also accomplished in 2009. Rick pitched to the tune of a 4.75 era, while racking up 104 strikeouts and walking 46 batters.

Lefty relief man, Phil Coke, will earn a base of $1.1 million. Phil’s contract also can include $50,000 in bonuses: $25,000 each for 65 and 70 relief appearances, or $25,000 each for 15 & 25 starts, James Schmehl of MLive.com confirmed.

The 24/7 Awards!

504419Rs9ATXMN

The founders and owners of Detroit Tigers Talk 24/7 now present, The 24/7 awards! Enjoy.

24/7 Most improved player:

  • Finalists: Alex Avila, Jhonny Peralta, Brennan Boesch.
  • 24/7s’ pick: Our first award goes to….Drumroll….Drumrolll……Drumroll… You guessed it, Alex Avila! Pretty obvious, ehh? The guy was an embarrassment last year, hitting .228 with 7 HR’s, and 31 RBI in only 104 games. This year, he completely turned it around. In the process he hit, .295, with 19 dingers, and 82 runs driven in. He also picked up a Silver Slugger award for AL catchers. Not only did he provide solid Offense, he provided the Tigers with magnificent Defense. This guy did it all this year, just like Hugh Heffner.
  • Fans pick: Alex Avila (76%)

24/7 Rookie of the year:

  • Finalists: Andy Dirks, Al Alberquerque, Jacob Turner.
  • 24/7′s pick: Andy Dirks played his heart out, just what the Tigers needed. We fell in love with Dirks’ hustle and effort. Every play, Dirks was hustling. Every pitch, Dirks was ready. He is the definition of a ball player, which is exactly what teams want. In addition to his effort, Dirks put up some solid numbers: .251 average, 7 HR’s, 28 RBI’s in 78 games.
  • Fans pick: Al Alberqurque (64%)

24/7 Relief man of the year:

  • Finalists: Joaquin Benoit, Jose Valverde, Al Alberqurque, Phil Coke.
  • 24/7′s pick: This was a fairly easy decision. We decided to go with the closer, Jose Valverde. Papa Grande notched 49 consecutive clean saves for the Tigers in 2011, pretty hard to deny him of this award. Valverde maintained a pretty dominant ERA as well, 2.24 in 75 games, 0.52 in save situations. Benoit pitched in 66 games and had a slightly higher ERA, 2.95. If Benoit would have pitched like he did in the 2nd half (1.33 era, 2-0, 16 holds), all year long, this would be a very difficult choice.
  • Fans pick: Jose Valverde (81%)

24/7 Defender of the year:

  • Finalists: Austin Jackson, Jhonny Peralta, Doug Fister (His D was outstanding, better then Buerhle’s).
  • 24/7′s pick: This may sound weird, but were going with Doug Fister. Doug provided athleticism on the mound that Tiger fans have never seen before. In his first year with Detroit, he made some plays I’ve never seen pitchers make. He should have won the Gold Glove for the pitching position, but the voters are too scared to pick anyone other than Mark Buerhle.
  • Fans pick: Austin Jackson (39%)

24/7 Dud of the Year:

  • Finalists: Austin JacKson, Brandon Inge, Will Rhymes, Ryan Perry, Brad Penny
  • 24/7′s pick: There were a few Tigers who busted this year, one of which was a veteran, a popular one that goes by the name of Brandon Inge. Yeah that’s right Inge fans, he sucked this year. No better way to describe it. Hitting under the Mendoza Line (.197), hitting only 3 homers (2 walk-offs, we will give him credit for that), and striking out 74 times in 102 games. Not to mention he was even DFA. #FAIL
  • Fans pick: Brandon Inge (31%)

24/7 Surprise of the Year:

  • Finalists: Jhonny Peralta, Brennan Boesch, Alex Avila
  • 24/7′s pick: Avila. What more is there to say? .228 to .295? 7 hr’s to 19 hr’s? In just a year? Sounds like we were playing season mode on MLB 2011 The Show.
  • Fans pick: Alex Avila (49%)

24/7 Most Frustrating player:

  • Finalists: Brad Penny, Rick Porcello, Brandon Inge, Austin Jackson.
  • 24/7′s pick: Rick Porcello over Brad Penny may sound like a stretch, but it may be true. You seriously never knew what you were gonna get from this kid. One month he shows flashes of brilliance, the next month he looks like Nate Robertson. You just never knew. It seems like every other month he was good. April: 1-2, 4.25 era. May: 3-1, 3.55 era. June: 2-3, 6.97 era. July: 5-0, 3.06 era. August: 1-2, 6.82 era. September: 2-1, 3.55 era.
  • Fans Pick: Austin Jackson (39%)

 24/7 Play of the year:

  • Finalists: Jacksons throw to home vs. CLE, Verlander striking out Davis for 2nd career no-no, Boesch homerun through the rain vs. TEX, Cabrera’s walk-off homerun vs. CWS , Papa Grande striking out A-Rod to end, ALDS, Last out to clinch Central vs. OAK.
  • 24/7′s pick: There really is no right or wrong on this one, more of a personal choice. For us, there were so many to choose from, it was almost impossible. But we have decided to go with the “Boesch homerun through the rain vs. Texas”. On August 2nd, the Tigers were tied with Texas 5-5, then Boesch stepped up and Drove it out of the park through the rain drops. We can’t even explain how exciting it was. Steven Spielberg could not have came up with a better plot. It was like the scene in The Shawshank Redemption, when Red found Andy on the beach at the end, it just makes you smile everytime you see it.
  • Fans pick: The Last out of Verlander’s no-hitter (38%)

Thank you fans for voting! We will have another set of awards right before the 2012 season! Stay tuned!

Time to give up on Ryan Perry?

ryan-perry-tigers-spring-e1302204111902

Since the Tigers 2008 first round draft pick busted on to the scene in ’09, Perry’s career has scene glimpses of promise, and all the makings of a nightmare.

Perry’s rookie year was OK, a season in which Ryan stockpiled 60 K’s in 61.2 innings. His era was mediocre for a late inning reliever, at 3.79. But great for a 22 year old. (Insert glimpes of promise)

2010 was supposed to be Ryan’s “Break out year”, that never happened. In fact, his numbers were almost identical to his rookie campaign. His era got better, and the walks went down heavily (38 to 23).But his strikeouts went down by 15! I think some of the problem with Perry is his rep. He has been so highly touted that everyone expects him to put up massive numbers, but we just haven’t seen that.

Then there comes 2011. A whole new year and a whole new Ryan Perry (well not really). Ryan was counted on to be a mainstay in the pen, but obviously that did not go as planned. Perry through up a 5.35 era, in the process, was sent down to Toledo 3 times. The one stat that makes me wanna puke is the base on balls. You really wanna know what it is? Really? Well, it sure isn’t pretty. Perry walked 21 batters. LOL right? But seriously its not funny, 21 walks in 37 innings is no where near acceptable, unless your Amazing Al. (Insert the makings of nightmare)

So the question is, should the Tigers give up on the young right-hander? It may seem like he is a 30 old wash-up, but  he is still only 24 years old. The Tigers “next closer” has not impressed me whatsoever and appears (at least to me) like he is getting worse every year. He has seen Jim Leyland’s trust him in free fall and his era skyrocket. So, What’s next? What’s next?

5 players the Tigers should target this off-season

David Wright

The 2011 Detroit Tigers gave it all they had, but in the end, it just wasn’t enough. Here’s a look at what players Dave Dombrowski and Jim Leyland should be looking to bring aboard:

5. Ivan “Pudge” Rodriguez

Detroit will be looking to add a back-up catcher’s services to the 12′ squad, and maybe some more veteran leadership. So why not bring back the former Tiger, Pudge?!?

Pudge may not be the player he was 5-10 years ago, but the guy can still call a pretty good game. His offense may even be an upgrade over Omir Santos’s. Last year in Washington, Rodriguez was limited to 44 games due to injuries, but he expects to be 100% by spring training. In 21 Major League seasons, Ivan has an average of .297 and 311 homers. Sign the veteran backstop to a one 2.5 million year deal.

4. David Wright

If the 2012 campaign started right now, Brandon Inge would be the Tigers starting 3B, need I say more? Inge didn’t even hit over the Mendoza Line in 2011, so why even consider him for the starting job?

David Wright may seem like a longshot, but with Jose Reyes getting all the attention in NY, why not try to steal him? Wright hit a combined .254 this year in 102 games. He was injured a good portion of the year but was still able to hit 14 homers in a park that doesn’t yield many. David is a career .300 hitter and his bat would fit nicely into Detroits lineup. Though it may cost a little. One of the Tigers top prospects, Turner or Castallanos, would HAVE to involved in the deal.

3. Erik Bedard

The Tiger rotation is solid as it is, but its lacking one important thing, a Lefty.

Erik Bedard is definitely injury prone and could become a liability. I consider him as a low-risk, high reward type guy, but the price won’t be that low. Bedard will be asking for a multi-year deal around the 14 million range. I think it could be worth the risk. The Tigers have a nice training staff headed by Kevin Rand, that won’t let Bedard get injured as much as the past. In 24 starts last year, Erik had a respectful, 3.62 era. Not to mention he pitched in the A.L East the second half of the season. Hey, worst case scenario he gets injured and Jacob Turner takes his spot.

2. Omar Infante

Omar Infante, the former Tiger, should be brought aboard to man the 2B position. As of right now, the Tigers do not have a Second basemen, and no Santiago isn’t a starter.

Infante may be the perfect fit in Detroit. He could fill the leadoff spot need as well as the 2B need. Omar did not leadoff in 2011 but might be the Tigers best candidate in 2012. IF Leyland decides sticks with Jackson as his leadoff man, Infante could easily slide into the #2 hole, where he hit .278 last year. So a nice .270 average and a solid glove, hmm. Go get him Dombrowski!

1. Aramis Ramirez

Ramirez is coming off an extremely productive season, a season in which he hit 26 homeruns and drove in 93. Aramis may be looking to cash in this winter, and very well could if he tested the open market. Thats the problem. No one knows if he’s going to hit the market, its no rumors that he wants back with the Cubs. But with new management in Chicago, will they be willing to bring Ramirez back at a 4 year deal?

This is where the Tigers come in. Let’s say we don’t want Inge or Betemit to be our Third basemen, or we don’t get David Wright. Ramirez is the best choice right? In fact he may fit perfect into the Tiger lineup, right behind Victor Martinez in the #6 slot. Aramis would get ALOT of RBI chances with Young, Cabrera, Martinez, and possibly Boesch, all batting ahead of him. DD, give him a 3-4 year deal around 45 mil, similar to what V-Mart got last winter.

Big stage calls for big boys

Detroit Tigers v Texas Rangers - Game One

Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez, where in the world did you go? You guys have carried us all season, only to go a combined 7 for 33. After they both hit above .330 and drove in 100 runs, they do this? Pretty embarrassing, huh?

Cabrera was, arguably, the best hitter in 2011, his .344 average proved just that. He also has been, arguably, the biggest let down of the playoff’s. Miguel had one big game in NY where hit a 2-bomb, but that’s about it. It seems like every time he bats, he hits it to the SS. If the Tigers are even going to smell a World Series berth, Cabrera NEEDS to step up. Without him, the Offense just isn’t good. At all.

Some of you might ask, Why have they sucked in the playoff’s??? I wish i could answer that, It’s just a big mystery to me. Outside of swinging at awful pitches and watching great ones go right by, I honestly do not know.

Even some other key players that helped Detroit get here, Alex Avila (1 for 16), Jhonny Peralta (4 for 18) and Austin Jackson (2 for 16), have struggled mightily.

None of the players are taking pitches, they are being heavily aggressive, which should be a major concern. I have noticed whenever Lloyd Mclendon sends the O out there agressive, they usually do not do jack. Lloyd needs to actually be a hitting coach and help his players make adjustments, I know this may be new to him, but he needs to do it.

Strikeouts have been another problem, 47 of them in the first round, in 157 AB’s. Jackson (11), Avila (9), Betemit (5 in only 9 bats), and Cabrera (7) have done their fair share of wiffing.

Detroit will try to get their bats going again tonight in Texas. Lefty, Derek Holland (1-0, 1.42) and Max Scherzer (1-0, 1.23) will duel it out at 7:45 ET. Go Tigers!

One series down, Two to go

Detroit Tigers v New York Yankees - Game 5

Last night, technically this morning, the Detroit Tigers eliminated the New York Yankees by a score of 3-2. The Yankees have now been knocked out by the Tigers, twice in the ALDS in the last 5 years!

Tigers starter, Doug Fister rose to the occasion of all the hype, delivering 5 innings of 1 run ball. He also walked 2, allowed 5 hits and K’d 4 Yankees, all on 92 pitches. Doug be handed his very first playoff win in his 2nd career postseason appearance.

The young rookie phenom, Ivan Nova would only last 2 inning’s. Young and Kelly launched back-to-back solo shots off of the young righty, in the first inning. But there was a good excuse for Nova’s early exit. The 24 year old was diagnosed with right forearm tightness, according to the Yankee’s training staff.

The Yanks would use 7 pitchers, 3 of which were starters during the regular season. Nova’s early vanishing forced Yankee manager, Joe Girard, to turn to Phil Hughes. Hughes would pitch an excellent, 2 scoreless innings.

Delmon Young and Don Kelly’s solo shots in the 1st justified the Tigers scoring tonight. Young was Detroit’s key offensive cog in the series, as he hit .316 along with 3 dingers.

Detroit will now head to Texas to take on the Rangers, in a best of 7 game series. This will mark the 2nd straight year the Rangers have reached the ALCS.

Rick Porcello, too risky?

Jim Leyland, Rick Porcello

Just hours after winning the ALDS vs. the New York Yankees, Jim Leyland released his starting rotation for the ALCS. Facing the Texas Rangers, at Texas for the first and last 2 games. Leyland has decided to go with this rotation for the big series:

Game 1: Verlander (1-0, 5.00)

Game 2: Porcello (0-1, 6.00)

Game 3: Fister (1-1, 6.52)

Game 4: Scherzer (1-0, 1.23)

*Game 5: Verlander (1-0, 5.00)

*Game 6: Porcello (0-1, 6.00)

*Game 7: Fister (1-1, 6.52)

You guys are probably wondering why Rick Porcello will be starting Game 2 and 6, right? Well, mainly in part to Doug Fister pitching last night. Doug is obviously not gonna go out out there on 3 days rest. The move could be questioned all night, considering Leyland could have slated Max Scherzer into Game 2, and possibly, Game 6.

The only question I have is, is starting Rick Porcello TWICE in a huge series, too risky?

Part of Leyland’s decision to pitch Porcello in game 2 could be that Rick is a ground ball pitcher. In a hitters park like Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, a ground ball type pitcher is more likely to succeed. On the other hand, the other option for Game 2, Max Scherzer, is more of a fly ball pitcher. Scherzer and a hitters park would not be a good mix, even though Max defied the odds in his last start, shutting out the Yankees on their turf.

The other part could be strength/rest. Max Scherzer just pitched last night, but only threw 32 pitches. Doug Fister also pitched last night, while throwing 92 pitches. Fister’s start last night automatically crosses him off the list to start Game 2. I guess Max could go, if the Tigers REALLY needed him. But the young Ricky Porcello was the most rested starter, and he will project as the Game 2 starter.

Notes for ALCS:

• According to Leyland, Magglio Ordonez RF, Brandon Inge 3B, and Ryan Raburn 2B will all start tomorrow night vs. C.J Wilson. Raburn is hitting .385 in 22 games against Texas in his career.

• 1st pitches:
Saturday at Texas 8:05 ET
Sunday at Texas 7:45 ET
Tuesday at Detroit 8:05 ET
Wednesday at Detroit 4:19 ET
**Thursday at Detroit 4:19 ET
**Saturday at Texas 8:05 ET
**Sunday at Texas 8:05 ET

• Pitching match-ups:

Game 1: J. Verlander (0-0, -.–) vs. C. Wilson (0-0, -.–)

Game 2: R. Porcello (0-0, -.–) vs. D. Holland (0-0, -.-)

Game 3:  C. Lewis (0-0, -.–) vs. D. Fister (0-0, -.–)

Game 4:  M. Harrison (0-0, -.–) vs. M. Scherzer (0-0, -.–)

Game 5: C. Wilson (0-0, -.–) vs. J. Verlander (0-0, -.–)

Tigers have advantage as series heads to Detroit

Detroit Tigers v New York Yankees - Game 1

When game 1 was all over, it appeared the Tigers could be heading home a little early. But when game 2 was all said and done, with the Tigers on top, it left many Tiger fans and experts believing the Yankee’s fate was sealed. With the Yanks facing JV tonight and running out the inconsistent, A.J Burnett tomorrow, the fans and experts just may be proved right.

On Monday night, the Yankees will have their hands full with possible MVP winner, Justin Verlander (1-2, 5.96). But it won’t necessarily be a walk in the park for Detroit, the Tigers will be having to face CC “Big Boy” Sabathia (7-4, 4.65). The two aces were scheduled to square off in Game 1, prior to the suspension of the game. CC, in 33 starts vs. Detroit, is 15-12 with an era in the 4.50 range. While Verlander is 4-3, 3.97 era in 10 career starts against the Bronx Bombers.

When the Tigers lineup faces CC and co., they will not be scared. They have hit Sabathia relatively well lately. Cabrera has led the way against CC, sporting a .563 average off of him. Jackson (.286) and Ordonez (3 hr and 18 RBI) have also had success vs. CC.

Game 4 will consist of Rick Porcello, who has never appeared in a playoff game, and A.J Burnett. Both pitchers have, arguably, been the most inconsistent starters in the A.L. But the young Rick Porcello has proven to have been the better of the two, posting a 4.75 era, compared to Burnett’s 5.15.

Yesterday morning according to the AP, Verlander went to manager Jim Leyland’s office, telling the skipper that he could go in Game 2. Leyland did not hesitate at all, firing back a “Your going Monday night”. Rumors are that Justin also told Leyland that he could pitch in relief in a (potential) Game 5. That just goes to show you how much Verlander is dedicated to winning, he is willing to do anything for this team.

Lineup notes for Game 3:  Jimmy Leyland has decided to insert Ramon Santiago into the #2 spot in the order, playing 2B. In Game 2, Santiago went 0 for 2.  The move may be considered questionable since Ryan Raburn hits lefties well, and has been scorching hot.

Magglio Ordonez will also be put in a new spot, batting 6th, while Avila drops to the 8th spot. The move was most likely made to protect V-Mart, Avila has gone 3 for his last 24. The veteran OF has started to heat up, hitting .375 since September 1st. This series Magg’s is swinging a .429 stick.

Leyland’s pal, Inge will be making his 2nd start of the ALDS, and the 15th of his postseason career. Brandon will replace the switch-hitter, Wilson Betemit, who has only gotten starts against right-handers. Inge’s numbers vs. CC aren’t pretty at all, hitting .190 with 15 K’s.

ALDS preview, Tigers vs. Yankees

Justin Verlander

For the first time in 5 years, and the 13th time in franchise history, the Detroit Tigers will be in the playoffs. In fact, the last time Detroit played in the ALDS, it was against the Yankees. The Tigers will enter the division series in search for their 5th WS title, while the Yanks will be going for their 28th.

Game dates:

Friday, Sept. 30 in New York: Justin Verlander (five days rest) vs. C.C. Sabathia (nine days rest)

Saturday, Oct. 1 in New York: Doug Fister (four days rest) vs. Ivan Nova (seven days rest)

Monday, Oct. 3 in Detroit: Max Scherzer (five days rest) vs. Freddy Garcia (eight days rest)

Tuesday, Oct. 4 in Detroit: Rick Porcello (five days rest) vs. C.C. Sabathia (three days rest)

Thursday, Oct. 6 in New York: Justin Verlander (five days rest) vs. Ivan Nova (four days rest)

Game 1:

Both the Tigers and Yankees will run out their ace’s in game 1. The clear cut CY Young winner, J. Verlander (0-0, -.–) will face one of the best lefties in baseball, in C. Sabathia (0-0, -.–). This could possibly be the best match-up in the first round.

Verlander’s regular season numbers were far from normal, they were unimaginable. JV lead in just about every catagory there is, ERA, wins, K’s, whip, and innings. You name it, he has got it. Career in the playoff’s, Verlander only has 4 starts (1-2, 5.82), but that was as an inexperienced rookie. This time, Justin is arguably the best pitcher in baseball. JV in his career against the Yankees is 4-3 with an era just a tad south of 4. Both Jeter and Posada hit Verlander great, posting .300 averages against him.

Another Dominant force, CC Sabathia, will toe the rubber in game 1. CC’s regular season numbers were more then acceptable (18-9, 3.00). But if the powerful lefty wants to win on Friday night, he will need to pitch incredible, no joke. CC will be pitching on 9 days rest. He has made 41 starts on six or more days rest, and in that situation, his ERA is 4.04. His career numbers vs. Detroit aren’t that flattering, as he has gone 15-12 with an era of 4.54. Detroit hitters have pounded him throughout his career, especially slugger, Miguel Cabrera. Cabrera sports a .563 average including 2 dingers, and 11 runs driven in.

Game 2:

The workhorse, D. Fister (0-0, -.–) will square off against rookie, I. Nova (0-0, -.–). Fister has been nearly untouchable since arriving in Detroit in late July, while Nova has made a name for himself in the big leagues. First pitch, like Game 1, will be at 8:37 ET in Yankee Stadium.

8-1, with an 1.79 era — Doug Fister’s numbers with Detroit. Talk about lights out, Fister has even outpitched his teammate, Justin Verlander since Aug. 3rd. Career vs. NY, Fister is only 1-2 with an era of 6.00, but can easily shutdown them on any given night. Granderson (.333, 1 HR) and Posada (.667), both have had success against Fister this year.

The sensational rookie, Ian Nova, came out of nowhere this season. He has forced his way into a struggling Yankee rotation. Nova lead all rookies in wins and whip, on his way to a 16 win campaign. He has only appeared in one game vs. the Tigers, a game in which he pitched 2 shutout innings.

Game 3:

New York’s, F. Garcia (0-0, -.–) and Detroit’s,  M. Scherzer (0-0, -.–) will duel it out Monday night. First pitch is currently slated for 8:37 ET, in Detroit.

Freddie Garcia has been a “Tiger killer” in his long, adventurous career. In 32 starts vs. MoTown, Garcia has recorded 18 wins and has produced an 3.88 era in the process. But in his 1 start against the Tigers this year, Freddie fell to Detroit. In that game Garcia went 7 innings, while conceding 4 runs. First basemen, Miguel Cabrera has hit the veteran the best, stroking a .391 average against Freddie.

The ever-so inconsistent, Max Scherzer will be making his first career playoff start. In 33 regular season starts, Max picked up a career high 15 wins, and had an era north of 4. Scherzer has only 3 career starts vs. NY, but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t been great. Mad Max is 3-0 with an era of 2.84!!! On May 4th, Scherzer tossed 8 shutout innings against the Yanks.

(Potential) Game 4:

In a potential game 4 matchup C. Sabathia (0-0, -.–) will be taking on R. Porcello (0-0, -.–). First pitch has not been announced yet.

Rick Porcello will (potentially) be making his first career playoff start. Porcello joins Fister and Scherzer as other Tiger starters who will be making their first playoff starts. In the regular season, Rick collected 14 wins and finished with an era of 4.75. The 22 year old, has made 4 starts vs. NY in his young career, splitting them both.

CC Sabathia, barring a sweep, will be pitching on 3 days rest. Joe Giaradi has already stated this.

(Potential) Game 5:

J. Verlander (0-0, -.–) and NYY: I. Nova (0-0, -.–), will be making their 2nd start in the series, if it goes that far. First pitch has not been announced.

DET player to watch out for throughout the series:

Who other then Miguel Cabrera? The guy is a flat out monster, and I’m not talking about one of those monsters who hide under your bed. I’m talking about the monsters who suck blood, kill and destroy everything in their path. Cabrera had that kind of September. The big fella hit at a .429 clip over the course of September, along with 6 homers, 21 RBI, and 12 doubles. You would think teams would just pitch around him, but that’s not the case this season, with Victor Martinez hitting .330 in the #5 spot. In addition to Cabrera’s just plain dominance in September, he has owned Yankee pitching, tagging them for a .374 average, along with 10 round-trippers.

NYY player to watch out for throughout the series:

Former fan favorite, Curtis Granderson has literally hit his way into the A.L MVP race. Curtis has been amazing all year, hitting 41 longballs, and collecting 119 RBI. Also, for all those Tiger fans who still thinks he still struggles vs. Lefties, think again. In 2009 Grandy hit .170 off of them, this year he is hitting 100 points higher at .272. In his 11 games vs. the Tigers Granderson has hit 3 dingers, all of which have been crucial. Watch out for this cat Tiger fans.

Prediction:

I don’t care if the Tigers are in a weak division and I don’t care about all the fans who think Verlander is the only player we have. The Yankee’s, and the rest of the nation, will finally find out that the Tigers are legit. I’m going with the Tigers in 3 games. Yes, we’re that good.
