Michigan State did everything they needed to do today against Florida Atlantic. They needed to jump out to an early lead, they needed to have a big lead at half time and they needed to get some of their depth players sufficient playing time.

After having a 27-0 lead at halftime Michigan State didn’t let up as they went on to a 44-0 victory over FAU Saturday from Spartan Stadium.

“That’s the kind of progress you want,” Dantonio said. “It was a very clean game.”

Michigan State held FAU to only one first down and 48 total offensive yards which came to be the 6th lowest amount in MSU’s 114 year history.

Michigan State finished the game with 434 in total yards, 27 first downs and 83 offensive plays run. It also doesn’t get any easier from here on out for Michigan State as they head to South Bend next weekend to take on the Fighting Irish.

“Overall, it’s a great win,” Dantonio said. “Our next test is down at Notre Dame next week. We have to be fundamentally sound, we have to do things well down there and we have to build our identity. I don’t think one game makes it, but I though we took steps in that direction today.”

MSU QB Kirk Cousins was 16-of-21 for 183 yards and two touchdowns, including a 13-of-16 for 161 yards showing in the first half. Spartan backup QB Andrew Maxwell played most of the second half finishing 6-of-9 for 63 yards.
